Sick pigeonI've taken in a feral female pigeon that trys to fly, but crashes, turns its head upside down periodically, but otherwise is able to eat and drink on its own. She is pooping what seems like normal poops and around 20-30 a day. I've placed her in a cage, 4'x4'x4' with newspaper on bottom, secluded, warm and quiet. I believe she has PMV from what I have gleaned from your posts, and plan to keep her from her buddies that visit my backyard for the required 6-8 weeks and she how she does. What else can I do? How long does this virus hang around in feces? Does it die off pretty quickly when on its own outside of being in the bird?

Sick PigeonYes, I read it, but still have question as to how long the virus exists when not in the bird.

I kinda' sorta' thought that was in there. Frankly, I've heard so many things that I don't know entirely what to trust. I've had a few PMV birds and I usually keep them isolated for about three months at least before I put them out in the loft (I rehab ferals and keep the ones that can't be released). I've never had it spread to another bird so far (knock on wood).
