Sick Pigeon-helpMy pigeon is sick-she is passing unprocessed seeds in her droppings. She is going light also. She eats and seems a bit perky but her droppings are small and full of seeds. Can someone please tell me what it might be. I have looked in books but these symptoms aren't listed?

What age is your pigeon? I work at a rehabilitation center and we've seen that in our young birds when they are about 3 weeks to a month old. If that's the case there's not much need to worry, let me know if she is older and I'll try to help with some tips we've used.

sick birdI have 6 house pigeons and she is my only sick one, how would she get worms if they never have been outside? Does it hurt to worm her if she is in her condition? Should I treat everyone?
Thank you so much! |

Reply to Pidge girlShe is about a year old (Her name is "That" Like that pigeon! ) shes laid three egg series. No other symptoms, but just wanting to sit in the sick bird pose-sometimes. Her vent looks clear- not drainage in beak or eyes. I really am worried about her but can't afford vet.

Is it possible that she could have swallowed a staple or a nail?
A common cause of hens passing undigested seed is something impacted in the gizzard, often it is something metal like a staple but it could be something like a corn husk. This would need an X-ray to confirm. What you could try is feeding her peanut butter . A friend had a pigeon that was shot and the lead pellet stuck in his gizzard. This can be fatal. He was advised to feed it peanut butter as well as give it the antidote for lead and the pellet was presumably expelled as it disappeared from the X-raysCynthia
