Violet colored poopie! What could this mean? Been treating the water with Apple Cider Vinegar, Elderberry Extract about once a week. Noticed this happened in one loft a couple of weeks ago in 2 or 3 droppings. Today I noticed it in my flyers loft and found it in probably 5 or 6 droppings.
Violet, light purple... thin as well.... Any help appreciated, LR

LR,
Birds' droppings turn color depending on what they eat. It's too early to say if this is illness or not. Can you list what their diet consists of? Are you adding anything to the diet in the way of supplements? If they are on a normal seed diet only, would you be willing to isolate these birds and get some of these droppings over to a vet for analysis? Although you wrote that the birds are now on Elderberry extract, did you give this to the birds first and then noticed the change in color? |

Hi there,
When I read the title of your post I thought "Blue berry!" because that is the colour of the poops my birds had after they eat some blueberries. And since you said you had given them some elderberry in your post I guess that could maybe be the cause, any other berries you've been feeding them?

Purple PoopieHey Guys,
Thanks for the replies. The extract added to water is about 1 teaspoon to the gallon and is very faintly coloring the water. Also, not all of the droppings are this color only a few. After reading the post about the blueberries it made me think. There are some polk berries near the loft but wouldn't have thought that they would have eaten them... but, that is a logical answer. The birds are not acting sick in anyway but, I was just concerned about them. Maybe I am borrowing trouble... Thanks Again, Larry
