Watery droppings from young... Hey All,Aside from chasing from one side of my property to the other trying to scare off a Coopers Hawk I am concerned about one other thing. I have seen several of our Squab/Squeekers with loose or thin droppings but, I checked on one today (about 3 1/2 weeks old) and when I put him back in the nest, he shot what looked like water in his dropping. He seems healthy, is this anything to be concerned about? Thanks! LR

Hi LR,
I want to ask you first, are the birds self feeding or are they still fed by their parents. If they are still fed by their parents, did you cange their diet recently? I mean the parents diet. How are the parent's droppings? I noticed in my birds, that young birds can have watery droppings and it can be normal for them. It does not always indicate illness. You will have to watch their behaviour. If they are alert and active and do their normal pigeon things, then probably it is nothing to worry about. Another thing that can cause watery droppings is stress. So, please let us know how they are acting and if you see any other signs of illness. Also, what color are their droppings? What are they eating? Do they have water, grit? Are they on any medications? Reti |

How are the parents droppings?
I would advice to watch them closely. But most likely it is nothing to worry about. Let us know if you notice any changes. Reti |

Tuckered, Tired and Tiffed!Contonpickin' Cooper! He has nailed two of our favorite birds and wounded one yesterday which "seems" to be ok today. Sure wish it was legal to put a Cooper out of my misery. Tempted to go out and get a bb gun just to sting him with but, would be my luck the neighbors would think I was trying to kill him and I'd get a visit from the Feds

LR,
I know how upsetting it is to see a hawk attack your birds, but, please don't ever try to hurt one. Besides that you can get in trouble for that, he is only doing what he is supposed to do. He eats pigeons, he has to survive and feed his young. The one that escaped, did you make sure he is alright? Did you check him out thouroughly so he does not have any hidden wounds. Please keep a close eye on him. Reti |
