Watery StoolsThe pigeon that was brought into me the night before New Years Eve which is about 200 grams under weight and was weak when brought in. This Pigeon eats well drinks well, was very dehydrated and is sitting at 288 grams. Well he hasn't gained but he hasn't lost either. His mouth is nice and clean but his poops are very watery and long string like green poops. Could it be worms or what? The vet said his poops look normal but I would have to strongly disagree. I want to ask here before I go back to her and ask her to worm him and see if it could be worms. What do you guys think?

thats a good one
No he hasn't he came in with a hurt wing so she x-rayed him and nothing wrong, maybe a sprained wing. Underweight as all hang though. I won't release him till he gaines more weight and fix his watery poo back to normal. Cindy

One of the symptoms of PMV is stringy poops sitting in puddles. However, I've seen a lot of those which didn't have a thing to do with PMV. Personally, I'd run a fecal float and a fecal smear. A float to look for Coccidial Oocysts and worm eggs, and a smear to look at bacterial types and loading. The smear I'd stain. If you get that stuff done at a vet, you're probably going to be looking at real money (not a lot but certainly not nothing).
If you're just going to shoot blind, you'd worm the bird and hit it with Baytril, Metronidazole and a Coccidiostat like Appertex or Corid. Everyone's going to have a slightly different opinion about that and which drugs to use so you'll have to make up your own mind about that based on your own resources. Other than that, heat and Kaytee. Pidgey |

Cindy, I'm with Pidgey on this. Sometimes you do have to "shoot blind" to help them. Do feed him Exact - at least once a day. You can get a product called "Nutrical" supplement to squirt about 1/4 to 1/2 inch in the Exact which will help put on weight and provide vitamins. I believe you can get it at most pet stores in the dog or cat departments.

I will try it at this point, although I will have to try a different pet store as the pet store we normally go to has some big problems with their birds. I hate to say it but it needs to put notices on the door stating that their birds are very sick and should shut the doors till they clean the store up. I haven't
been there in almost 1 month and won't go back till I know I can't bring anything home to my birds. To me they are not taking care of their customers. Thanks Maggie and Pidgey. Cindy
