Looking for someone around my area

Hello I am looking for a few homing pigeons(preferably young but any age would be fine) for a low cost or for free, I just built a brand new coop and want to fill it with pigeons so if anyone lives near my area (Whittier,CA) i would appeciate if you replyed and/or send me a private message- I am looking for simply just young homing pigeons to start with, I dont really care for looks.

Hi Zoozle! We can definitely find you some nice birds here in Southern California. I'm down in Lake Forest in South Orange County and have some racers/homers that are rescues. Some are banded and some are not. We also have a member here (Nancy Vitale) who is wanting to find homes for some birds. She also may be able to help you out. Also, there's George Simon down in Oceanside. I don't know if he has adopted out all the birds he wants to or not. Also Kippermom in the SF Valley area has some racers. As you can see, there is no shortage of pigeons looking for a home.

If any birds that you adopt are older and have been flown from a previous loft, you would need to use them as breeders and not let them out to fly as they will try to go back to their original home.

If you can post some pictures of your coop and what size it is, that would be helpful.

Terry

Zoozle..

I have 4 squabs just being weaned that could likely fly and home to your loft after a few weeks...I have older birds as well but you asked about youngsters so that is what caught my eye. They have been raised in a outdoor aviary that sounds like yours. I am in the Simi Valley area but would meet 1/2 way if you want these youngsters. You can e-mail me at diane@vsrlaw.com if you are interested. I can even e-mail you pics if you are interested in them. I do not charge for these birds as I am trying to make room for rescues and prisoners.

Zoozle2; can you post a pic of your loft when you get a chance?

Also what's banded means the bird that has band on their leg/s...It's their ID in case you join the race with your local club or if they get lost and someone find them it's easy for the finder to contact the organization (AU or IF) who is the original owner and get the bird back...

Zoozle .. Kippermom probably has the ones you want .. they are young enough. If you want any breeders, then the rest of us can help you out.

Hi Diane,

That is awesome you found a home for your youngsters! I'm sure they will be very happy and settle in just fine with batman23!

I hope you dont have too hard of a time catching your pigeons in a loft thats 10 feet tall.
You might want to get a bird net

Actually, Zoozle got the 4 squabs and Batman23 came out and chose 2 pair of slightly older birds....8 gone to two great homes in one day.

This starts to make room for more rescues down the road so it is a good thing....though it is hard to part with any of them!

They're my babies...

I know how you feel. For me, it's easier to give away the younger birds than it is the older ones. I sent out some birds at the end of the year that had been on my race team for 3 or 4 years. I HATED to let them go, but they can't race forever and in order to replace them with younger birds, you gotta do what you gotta do.
At least I know the young birds will be able to fly where ever they go. The older birds will become prisoners and that's really hard to know that they'll never fly again.
