I hope you understand tiger swallows are not naturally tiger striped. They are born with solid colored wings and alternate feathers need to be pulled 8 to 15 times (takes about 2 to 4 years) before they start growing back in white, creating the tiger striped look. Just wanted to let you know, it takes time and effort and the guts to rip out feathers multiple times to create those beautiful birds.

Not to kill any intentions, if you can do it, by all means go ahead! It's just something I was really interested in until I found out thats how it is done. I mean, you can take any bird with solid wing color and turn it into "tiger" if thats how it is done! Why limit it to the swallow breed aye? I just wouldnt be able to do it...blah!

Are you saying the feathers are colored and after pulling them a certain amount of times they grow back white? If so, why do the pulled feathers grow in white and not colored?

Bohemian Tiger SwallowsI have a couple of unrelated pairs of Red Bohemian Tiger Swallows, they are not for sale, but expect to pay over $800 a pair for good quality birds. Mine descended from the top breeder in Germany. They are genetically predisposed to change feather color after a lengthy marking process that takes 2-4 years and 8-16 pluckings. Once the feathers start coming in white, they will remain white after each molt. I don't know if this process will work on other types of swallows or not. I have several other types of swallows, but have not tried it on them. I would also like to obtain other colors of this breed, and would be willing to trade some Tigers at some point in the future.
