Can a ziplock bag full of water really deter flies??

I'm sure some of you have heard of this, take a ziplock bag fill it half full with water and put a single penny in it and hang it wherever you don't want flies.I have had great success,it really does work.Last summer i lost several new born calves do to the great number of biting flies,i tried the fly repellent sold for cattle but at $40 a gallon i started looking for a more economical way to control them.A local vet told me about this so i started pinning up new moms and expectant mothers, hung 1 bag on each corner of there building and the flies left them alone.

My wife did this one time and I almost fell over when she did. I grew up on a dairy and had never heard of it before. And we had flys all year long. Well the water bags worked. It has something to do with the reflection they see. Shawn

This is a common thing here in Mexico. It works don't know why or how but you will see bag and clear soda bottle hanging all summer.

Never heard of this. Now I trying to figure out the reason why. If it is the reflection, then I'll just put a damn mirror. How about that? Unless the bag magnifies their image, distort it like funny mirror effect, scaring their crap out like there is some huge ugly predator to get them, then they probably will go somewhere "safe." So maybe they scared themselves up with their own image? LOL!

I heard this works because flies don't like flying over water,if they see a reflection off of water they simply turn around the other way.
