Have you ever met Turtle?

I have a parakeet name Turtle I hand raise. He was born 6/29/2005. I'm not sure if I have ever mention him before. If so, well here is a repeat...

Turtle developed a really horrid case of splay legs when growing up. By the time I knew what splay legs even was it was too late to help treat him. Anywho, after being told by others to just let nature take it's course and let him die because he will never live pass a year. I hand raise him anyway. WELL BLAH to those others. Turtle is still alive almost 3 years old and living a normal life.

This is an old Video I'm not sure if I posted it before. Turtle being a boomerang. Fly is no problem, he has improved his landing over the years though...

Well, he looks like a total sweetheart!! I don't recall ever hearing about him, but that don't mean much. I can't remember past yesterday!!
So, does he live in a cage? How does he get around when he's not flying?

Oh Cyn, Turtle is just beautiful! I really enjoyed the video of him flying. He landed so softly and sweetly in (I guess) your husband's hand. So sweet.

Do you ever put him on a soft mat to scoot around on?

I don't blame you for not putting him down. He still has a quality of life and, to me, that's what counts.

Well the cage I have him in can be a bird/sugar glider cage. It is very large & I left one plateform in it. I have 6 parakeets (including Turtle) and one Cockatiel. Turtle climbs around like Spiderman, when he is tired of using his legs he rest on the platform or on top of a food dish I made out of a plastic cream ice container this way it is easier for him to get to food & water.

I Just took this small video, He always hangs out on this side of the cage he will fly then go back to that corner...

He seems to get around much better than I would have expected. With your support, he looks like he is enjoying life!
