New York penguin

A story/movie idea based on a dream I had several week ago. The story is titled: New York penguin or NYP for short.

About the story:

The begining of it takes place in anartica. Koto, a male emperor penguin has one job to do while his mate, Safara is away...taking care of their egg. So far the job is easy that is until Koto chats with his best friend, Kenda and the egg rolls off the ice. Though Kojo tries to go after it the egg winds up in a fishing net. So far no one's noticed the 'other' thing that was caught with the fish except for a St. Bernard named, Simra.

The ship then takes the fish to a shipping company where it is sent to New York city. Simra leaves the egg with best friend and next door neighbor, Zev a male border collie/wolf mix. Not too keen about Simra's so called 'gift' from the south pole Zev leaves the egg with his homing pigeon roommates, Kelvin(male) and Kenna(female). The two birds are surprised to see this 'thing' in their cage nonetheless the duo care for the egg.

64 days later Kelvin and Kenna get a taste of parent hood when Sola arrives on the scene. Though the two pigeons are somewhat shocked about their newborn 'daughter'. The duo along with Zev also try hide the penguin chick from their owner, Rochelle. Meanwhile, Kojo and Safara have been caught and shipped to the Bronx zoo, the duo hope to find Sola.

While Kojo and Safara ajust to life at the zoo, Kelvin Kenna and Zev try to care for Sola, which isn't so easy. As she gets older Sola finds out she can't fly and that she's an emperor penguin(she thought she was a pigeon, cute! ). So far Sola is taking the whole thing somewhat well but what happens when she leaves the apartment to explore Manhattan?

Ok so the story might not be the best but I thought it was sort of cute. I also thought it'd be something you'd like since 2 of the main cast characters are pigeons.

Below is a list of different names of main characters and their meaning. Before I had other names picked out for her:

Kojo-Born on monday

Safara-Fire

Kenda-Bright

Simra-Memory

Zev-My wolf

Kelvin-A river of Scotland

Kenna-Beautiful

Sola-She who is alone

--------

Other names I had picked out:

Koto-Harp

Usoa-Dove

Sora-Sky

Kita-North

Kishi-Night

Sonel-Lily

Sona-Gold

Sonora-Pleasant sounding
------
These were names I had picked out before I fianlly decided to use Sola. Kenna was also on the list.

Feel free to comment on this.

Just a little side note about me, I got into writing in 2000 and since then its become one of my interests. My sister's also into Journalism.

Very creative, it sounds like a wonderful story. I read the first line wrong and saw "pigeon" instead of "penguin" and I was thinking, hmm, wouldn't it be really cold on the ice for pigeons?? But then I read it again and saw my mistake hehe. I think writing is one of the best hobbies and certainly one of the best therapies! I have been writing stories and books since I could hold a pencil. This last year has shown me some writer's block, don't know where my muse has skipped off to! I would really like to do some animal books, thanks for the inspiration and good luck with the story.

Quote from Mario Puzo:

"Writing is rewriting"

Mario Puzo wrote the book: The Godfather as well as the script for the film Superman 2, which was released in 1980 in the UK and in 1981 in the US.

Trivia note: Marlon Brando(Jor-El in Superman) owned pigeons.

I get insperation for my stories from places I've visited and lived in, people I've seen and met, tv shows, books, etc...as well as animals, including my pets.

Oy! the last 5 days I've had a touch of a cold though I'm coming out of the woods. Being sick bites, especially for me since if I get REALLY sick I'm usually in bed for a day or longer . I've been blowing my nose a few times but I'm hoping to be over this by next week at the rate I'm going .
