USDA beef recall

Advocacy groups also weighed in, noting the problems at Westland wouldn't have been revealed had it not been for animal right activists.
Apparently the USDA needs babysitters (animal right activists). I'm not for all actions of the activists some can be extreme.

Raymond countered a claim leveled by Humane Society President and CEO Wayne Pacelle, who said a USDA inspector was at the Westland plant for about two hours each day. USDA inspectors are there at slaughterhouses "continuously," Raymond said.
Doing what? Having lunch, looking the opposite direction. They should also be held accountable

Jut saw it on FOX news and this just makes me sick. The whole deal is this is nothing new. I saw this on 20/20 like forever ago. One of the reasons I quit eating met, it just made me sick.

I hope heads roll for this one and I'm going to do what can to help.

I'm not a total anti-meat, my friends and family and dog eat meat. It's a choice but these companies can do their business in a humane
manner or get out.

Kippy,

I feel as you do. I'm not anti meat either, but am seriously considering becoming a veggie solely as a protest against the whole sick meat industry. First they load the animals with hormones and antibiotics, and raise them in barely humane crowded filthy conditions. Then they engage in horrendous practices in the slaughter and packing industry. I love a good steak, but it doesn't taste so good when I realize how much misery the animal it came from probably suffered at the hands of the meat industry as it exists today. Ditto for poultry.

That Made Me Cry. Its Sad That They Can't Even Care For Those Animals In The Frist Place That Last One Her Back Legs Most Have Been Like That For Some Time. I Think most Big Plants Like That Don't Care All They Care About Is The Money Not The Animal And Not What We Eat. Most The Cows In That Video Were Dairy Cows Maybe High Cell Count, To Old Or Wouldn't Breed Back Thats A Few Of The Reasons Why They Are Culled. Which You Can Trun These Cows Into Nurse Cows. They Make Things To Pick Downed Cows Up With That Doesn't Hurt them Why Push A Cow With The Forks On The Fork Lift That Was Uncalled For. I Hope These People Are Fined And Spend Time In Jail.

This Year I Hope To Never Have To Go To The Store To Buy Any Food.
I'll Be Raising My Own Its Alot Safer. You Can't Trust The USDA or The Stores Anymore To Sale Safe Food To Eat. if You Rasie Or Grow It Your self You Know Its Safe And What is In It.

I makes me crazy/sick too. It makes me feel like screaming and I just can't understand how anyone can be so cruel. It keeps me awake at night. A couple of weeks ago I decided to go from vegetarian to vegan. To each his/her own but I have to live with myself. I want no part of any action that has caused pain or cruelty to another living creature.

Just curious? What the difference in the two? I always thought they were both the same thing and that "vegan" was just a shorter word?

I didn't see that till this morning on the news and I wish I could have been there to help that cow out at the time she wouldn't have been pushed with no damn fork lift that is for sure. I can honestly say I HATE PEOPLE WHO ARE CRUEL TO ANIMALS !!! Point blank!. I have run out on a 6 lane highway to rescue a baby robin last year almost got hit by 2 cars that could have cared less but that robin is still alive today. Yes my husband screamed at me but who cares. Like I told him we have to have people that care or our world would be in alot of trouble. You know as well as I those people who used the Fork Lift will end up in trouble as it is goingto go around the US now. At least I hope they lose their jobs over it.

Seems that some people DID loose their job over this. That's GREAT. Won't solve the problem cause I'm sure this goes on EVERYWHERE, but at least it's something.

Thank You Renee for all the info. I had no idea that they were kicking and shocking them too. What a bunch of usless SOB's I am glad something is being done though. Some farmers raise for the food and me if I could have a farm which I have always dreamed of they would be pets.

I saw this story a while ago on the news, I am glad there have been repurcusions. Not severe enough in my opinion, but let's let cruel, stupid people know that they can and will be held accountable. I agree with Kippy, and this sort of thing has everything to do with why I don't eat flesh. Those animals, raised for food or not, are living breathing souls with feelings who are deserving of kindness and respect. Much more so than the REAL animals, the abusive and cruel people who mistreat them.

I just seen the entire video and was in tears over the abuse and cruel acts on this poor helpless cow, she couldn't even stand then to poke her repeatedly in the eyes with that damn shock stick is way to much for me to handle. Is there anyway of getting a web site for this meat slaughter CO. I am writing them and if I can find a phone number then I will do that also. I think they should have to be physcologically tested also. These are very disturbing people and videos.

I just found this. Didn't read the whole thing yet. I believe this is the web site and it's been taken down except for the letter. That's how it appears to me anyway.

Here's a picture of the plant with an address and phone number.

I wrote a letter to the Governor and voiced my very loud opinion on the matter, I hope something is done in this matter, I even mentioned Physcological evaluations to him on the men involved. Thank You Renee for all your help I appreciate it very much.

Angry

I did read that letter, Renee, and it is really wild. Here is the signature: ( I copied & pasted!)

Steve Mendell
President
Westland Meat Co.
Hallmark Meat Packing

We are not vegetarian, we like meat, but we do hunt. Our motto is: "Ya can't grill it 'till ya kill it". We hunt deer, bear and turkey. All done within the law, and with licenses, and humanely. One shot is all it takes. That so-called facility should be shut down. PERMANENTLY. I think they are looking for 'brownie points' with that " Hallmark" word. That was some horrifying sh_t they showed on the news. No animal should be treated that way. It is cruelty at it's worst. I won't stop eating meat, just won't be buying it.
