Found AGSG Pigeon in Michigan

About mid July a pigeon showed up at my 90 year old Grandma's lakefront home. Being a bird lover she has followed all the information I have found on the internet and has been feeding and caring for it. It has taken up residence under the upper deck of her house. From what I see on the internet the idiot that bred this bird and sold them has directed the buyers to release them. What in the heck do with do with this poor thing? We have called the humane society, DNR and no one handles pigeons.

Any help would be apprectiated. Grandma enjoys the company but knows that come cold weather if most likely will not survive. She would love to find it a home.

The bird is actually in Howard City which is about 50 miles north of Grand Rapids. My parents have been able to get the band number if you need it however I don't have it handy right now. I will also try to have them get a picture. It is very friendly with Grandma but we haven't attempted to catch it as of yet.

There are a couple of members here that would be able to point you in the right direction according to the band numbers. I also PM'd a member that lives in MI. they live close to Jackson and Ann Arbor.

Oh my gosh, thank you so much. As much as my Grandma loves watching the bird, it is just getting to be too much for her. She is too funny, she laid down newspaper to catch its waste and says the bird is too smart and now has moved to deposit along side the paper.

hi, MI person here, sorry for popping up so late. I have a small dog kennel and the girls keep my evenings busy.

Is the bird healthy looking, a picture would be helpful. I just found an agsg bird too so we're looking for a companions for him.

I wouldn't be able to drive up to Howard city but if you'd be willing to meet me in portland between GR and Lansing on Saturday. PM me if you would be able to meet.

My Grandma was a huge bird lady too.

Hope this works out folks! Please let us know. I have someone else in MI that found an AGSG bird that didn't make it. She's willing to adopt, so let's all keep this forum updated, please!

Welcome to the forum and thank you for wanting to help this pigeon.

This is a link to a good way to catch it. Sometimes it just requires patience but it does work.

Good luck.

Since time is of the essence, essentially tomorrow night. I am hoping a fishing net or maybe he will just walk into the cage. Thoughts?

Yes, put his food and water in the cage. Don't feed him anywhere else. When he goes in, shut the door. If he's leary of coming close, you could tie a long string on the door so that you don't have to actually walk up to the cage to get the door shut. If he goes in and you try to shut it and he escapes, that's all it will take to make him wary of what you're trying to do. Got to be quick.

Sounds like this will be a big adventure for me. He is pretty tame with my Grandma and comes when she shakes the food bowl so I am hoping we can just coax him in. Wish me luck, lots of it.
