Good morning. I was just reading your post that said you raid frillbacks. I have been trying to research them because I would love to get a couple. I currently beginning a hobby of white dove releases and have white homers. I think they would be beautiful in an old wrought iron cage as a center piece at a wedding. And they also fascinate me. My problem has been finding information on their needs and what they need. I can find lots on their genetics and show quality. Can you recommend any sites for me to read? I am going to a pigeon show in Granite Bay, Ca. tomorrow and hoping to get some information there. It will be my first show and I am excited. Also there is a guy in Southern Ca that has some blue grizzles for sale and I thinking of buying a pair from him. His birds look healthy and their housing area looks clean and tidy. I thought the blue would look great to represent the groom in a cage and plan to get a pair of whites too to represent the bride. I initially was wanting to get one of the whites with grey wings (not sure what color they are called) but they appear to be much harder to get.
The frillbacks will be fun because I can enjoy them in their coop while I am stressing during the morning hours when I am allowing my whites to fly and come back watching for those damn hawks!

I mean black is blue + spread. So a blue bar + spread = black. That is why you need to have at least ONE parent be black. It can be a black pied or solid black. If it has one copy of spread and you mate it to a blue half the babies will be blue and half will be black. If the black has two copies of spread you can mate it to a blue and get all spread (black) babies. Now this is separate from genes that cause pied, grizzle etc. I am just talking spread vs. check or bar or barless.........spread is dominant over them. I hope that is not too confusing but basically you can not breed a black out of blue bars or blue checks, you need at least one parent to have the spread gene.

Hello. Tnx for ur advice. So u want to say that to get a black I should totally rule out blue bars and blue checkered. Did I get it right.?.
Black spreads... Hmmm. Can u show me a black spread?how exactly it looks?.
Its okay if u don't have time as u're a scientist. U've got a lot of work to do...

    Hi WoodNative.How u doin'...!
I've heard that U know about pigeon genetics . Would u mind telling me if I could get a pure black color out of blue bar cock+black tailed black flecked hen. I'm fond of pure white/black/red. I now have pure whites but I nvr had pure black high flyer. I'm fan of a pure black pigeon figure flying high in the skies. What color of pigeons should I pair to derive jet black color?. I have tried blue bar cock+black tailed checkered hen but nvr succeeded. Outcome is always a blue bar or black flecked. I tried both black checkered also but no success. But yeah I definitely wouldn't wanna compromise with high and non stop flying capabilities.
    Tnx

Not sure if that is A RT or not....does not quite look stocky enough. I have to dig up a pic............there were some great RTs at the local show last year. We almost broke down and bought this one bird.......my daughter and i both fell in love with it in the sale cage though it would not have been logical to get it. Right when we almost broke down a young guy bought it. I like almond a lot........a fun color to work with. The WOE are really nice too.

I posted the address in your wanted add. I also posted our birds in the pic of the day with some more on almond. Andalusian is best mated to another andalusian or a black. I love andalusian and used to have andalusian Russian Tumblers. Kites are basically T-pattern with some bronze thrown in. Also usually one copy of rec red underneath. This is mated to an almond to bring out the "classic" almond color like your bird has. You could mate an almond to a black or rec. red etc. too......it will just look different on them. If you can get a kite...that is your best choice I think.....but otherwise there are a lot of options. The NRTC website is a little outdated but check out the photos there too for some nice RTs. The standard is also listed.

She didn't seem to know the exact age.......but they usually start adding more and more seed at that time and should certainly be able to take seed. It sounded like her problem was more chilling than lack of milk to me. They were getting fed, but could not digest due to chilling since she said the one was cold. I bet your baby rollers are getting some seed at this point (shoudl be able to see it through the skin of the crop). They look great btw and obvious they are being good parents! I am going to an NJ pigeon show tomorrow. Looking forward to it!

I didn't know it was that early that they switched to seeds for the babies. Would rollers hold out a little longer with milk. My guys crops are FULL but its seems to be milk and they are pooping like crazy. I thought it was like 2 weeks and then they start switching over?
