Since my Dinky has been on house arrest for the past several weeks, her nails have grown so much that they are beginning to turn sideways. I have read that some people clip them with regular nail clippers for 'people', does anyone know if that would be ok? And if so how far should they be clipped? I was just going to go ahead and do it, but decided I should get some advice from some of the great people that come here and are so full of knowledge.
This will be quite the experience, I've been trying to think of an easy way to do it, she really can be a fiesty one when it comes to having to sit still for any length of time...Thanks for your time.
Try it with two people, One holding her with her wings contained beneath your hands and her back to your chest. Have a steady handed partner take each toe, and like bigbird says, clip just a little at an angle following the curve of the nail. Use extreme care.
You can't praise or spoil her enough while doing this!
Thanks for your help...we did it! My husband held her, just as you said,(he is her favorite anyway) and I did the clipping. It went very smoothly. They have grown so much though, it doesn't look like they were clipped at all. She has been inside for so long and on her eggs for about 3 weeks, that I had not noticed that they had become so long. Is there anything else that can be done or will all be ok as long as we keep them at this length? (this darned hawk is here everyday so she had been inside for many weeks and has no way to wear them down)
Thank you much
