Training young birds.

I accidentally let a young half homer out. He learned to trap in by following his parents. I didn't have to teach him at all. Is that common? His parents took some effort to teach. He picked it up in a day.

Do ferals ever figure out the trap door?

I had a similar experience with one of my homer squeakers, though she was the only one outside.
I guess they 'follow the parent'
