We rescued a dove from a cat... What now?

One of my cats caught a dove. We managed to chase it off before the bird sustained any visible injuries. We left it to rest outside for a while while we sat a small distance and made sure no nosy pets came to investigate and startle the dove. We then, when it looked to be less dazed, put it on the roof so that it was out of harm's way and didn't feel trapped. We watched it for a while and we saw that it wanted to try fly off. It jumped off of the roof (single storey house), but sort-of glided down into the bushes - as though it couldn't fly. We put it back in the cage and brought it inside, before putting a towel over it in a dark room. We don't know what more to do for it, or if we'll be able to even release it. We didn't notice wing injuries, although the tail did move to an odd angle when the bird turned, but it then straightened out. Any advice please?
