Hi Goffy and welcome to Pigeon-Talk. Generally speaking, pigeons and doves shouldn't be kept together as the pigeons are so much larger, stronger, and more aggressive. That being said, fantails are usually pretty calm and gentle birds. I guess you could give them a trial run together, but you would have to keep a very careful watch to assure that the doves aren't injured or killed by the pigeons.

Like Terry says, you could try them and keep a good eye on them for a while.

Are the doves 'true' doves, as in white Indian ringnecks or some similar bred variety, or white pigeons?

I think it may also depend upon space. Dove cote conjure up image of the wooden house on a tall pole, with little entrance holes. The fantails would need quite a decent size compartment - for instance, our nest boxes are a good 12" x 12" x 12".

Do you know that the fantails are a male and female? If not, then they probably won't much like sharing

Pigeons and fantails can be kept together, however, they do have different requirements.

Pigeons love to fly and can learn to home, however, fantails are not great flyers and do not have the homing instinct.

Do you have your dovecote open, so the birds can come and go, or is it predator proofed?

The Cote Is Open But The Rear Garden Is Fairly Secure Except From Raptors

If you have hawks in your area, you may want to secure the dovecote by enclsoing an aviary around it. The pigeons are vulnerable to hawks, that is their favorite meal. If they have an open door where they can come and go, hawks will come around. Fantails cannot out fly hawks either.

So these are doves not pigeons. I know the kind you mean, then.

We don't have that many aerial predators in the UK, I know - Sparrowhawks would be the only ones I'd think likely, unless you are in an area where there are Peregrine Falcons.

Accomodation sounds OK

Heck, give 'em a try.
