Duck problem

We have a male mallard that has been coming to our swimming pool in our backyard that appears to have an injured leg. When it stands up it stands on one leg with the other dangling straight down from the first joint above the foot. The web between the toes has collapsed and when it goes over to the bird feeder the duck does not walk at all, it pulls itself along on its belly.

I tried to sneak up on it the other night to grab it with a catch net, but it heard me coming and jumped into the pool. It is about three time the size of a pigeon and I have no clear idea about how to catch it, or whether I should just leave it alone. It appears to be in pain as it lies on its side trying to take weight off that side which has the injured leg.

Does anybody have any suggestions or know of any group that has some experience with wild ducks?
