Zebra finches have 'night terrors'

I adopted a group of 10 inbred and not super healthy finches from an animal rescue place a while back. One has splayed legs, one has a little bit of scissor beak, and one recently got foot mites. Well, they were pretty good for a while, but just recently, after I got Fatfeet (the foot mites one) treated, I keep getting woken up at night by this terrible ruckus of them flying around and banging into the bars of the cage. I have cats, I thought it was their fault, but it happens even when they're both in the room with me. I tried to watch them do it, but they only do it when it's pitch black, so I have no idea why they're doing it.
They fly around and hit the bars and stuff but don't make any peeping sounds or anything other than that. and they do this very often during the night. I get worried they're going to hurt themselves, but every morning when I check on them they're all fine and peeping happily as though nothing had happened.

Any ideas?

Are you covering their cage at night? Maybe if you let a night light on they will not have the night frights.
One of my doves used to do this and since I don't cover their cage completely and leave a bit of light to get in he hasn't done it since.

Reti,
Thanks for the suggestion. I always thought that if I left the light on, they'd never go to sleep. I'll try it out tonight and see what happens.

I use a night light in my bird room, my cockatiels tend to get night frights too sometimes
