Rescued pigeons -returning home?

I'm in the North East of England and I've just removed over 100 feral pigeons from inside a derilict building, the owner's boarded up the building trapping them inside with only one exit route which which most didn't appear to know existed.

I've been giving them food and water for a few month's now inside this building to keep them alive, I've now removed most of them and they're now at a wildlife rescue centre 10 miles away.

What should I do about releasing them as I'm concerned that they'll just return to the derilict building where there isn't any food, they've obviously been relying on me feeding them inside the building?

How long would they have to stay at the wildlife rescue so they could be released and not return?

Surely the wildlife centre will be able to have answers to those questions. Is it possible to mark them somehow and after releasing you can just go check regularly if they return. At least they won't be able to get back inside the building. If they do return, you can continue feeding them outside the building.
