New birds should always be quarantined for a month before putting with your birds. I know that sounds like a long time, but some things can take time to show. This gives you time to watch them for health, and worm them, which takes a couple of weeks anyway, and treat for anything that should come up. There have been people who have not done this and been fine, but there have also been those that have infected their whole loft with illness. Really not worth it.

Ok, now that the bird is wormed, how long will it take for him to start to gain weight? Hes on his own with plenty of feed and clean, fresh water. He will be wormed again in a few weeks.

As long as that was the only issue, and he is eating enough, he should put the weight back on.
