Pigeon going bald...wing scabs

Hello, I've never seen this before, but one of my birds is losing a lot of feathers and just overall looks extremely mangy. Definitely not moulting. This has been going on for the past few months, progressively getting worse this past month. A lot of feather loss under his wings, and also some scabs on the wings. His tail feathers are all broken. However, he acts completely normal, which really puzzles me. But he looks so terrible and I'm afraid it could be contagious to my other birds. Thought maybe external parasite. I've treated with ivermectin, scatt, mite/lice spray, and have also been giving him listerine and Epsom salt baths several times a week. So far nothing has helped. He looks worse every day. Any ideas? He's starting to lose feathers on his face now.

Question

feather mites

dear baboonface,-looks like feather mites, notice the feathers[edges]do they appear chewed on,--my pigeon had a loss of feathers-so I isolated her and used just a dab of [advantage]-behind her head/neck area--which may be controversial,-it did work,-as she went on to develop many new feathers with no problem..now I must stress only a dab-[not a drop]-all insecticides are deadly-someone on this website may have a different view and procedure-wait and see,--view all information,--sincerely james waller

Hi, the bald areas and crusts could suggest depluming mite.
This mite burrows into the bird skin at the base of the feathers. It causes the loss of feathers and so bald areas in the crop/chest area, under the wings, etc. It also causes itch and irritation to the skin. Have you seen your bird scratching more than usual?

I read online (on a French forum) about a natural remedy against depluming mite: mix 1/3 of eucalyptus globulus oil with 2/3 of common table oil (like sunflower). Put the oils in a bottle spray and spray your bird in the area attacked by parasites and all around that area. Repeat the treatment every 2 days for a week.
You can find the eucalyptus oil in pharmacy or parapharmacy.

As I have never tried it I don't know if it really works and if works against the other types of mites.

I know that usually each treatment against parasites must be repeated after 10/15 days.

Ulcerative dermatitis can have many reasons. I would take to the vet.
