Has anyone tried painting birds to Deter BOP attacks?

Just read this article on how certain pigeons coloring can save them. http://www.news.harvard.edu/gazette/2005/05.05/01-pigeon.html

Any tips on getting rid of a hawk other than shooting it? I know it's illegal to shoot birds of prey and even if it weren't I wouldn't shoot them.
