I had about 60 young birds from 3 rounds. I banded the birds 1st round ESM, 2nd round TAF, and 3rd round ESM. I did this to keep track of the birds when loft flying and training. Round 1 and 2 in one section and 3 in another section. I have been loft flying the birds in the evening about 2...

When pigeons are moulting, should they NOT be flying? Almost everyone in my loft is moulting right now but I still loft fly around half of them. They don't seem too interested in flying compared to a couple of months ago.

I have a concept of what this is, but not sure exactly. How far do they go from home while routing compared with loft flying? Generally just out of sight versus normally in sight? How does it differ from loft flying? Happy flying, Nathan

There is an article in the current RPD about the SCMDR. The writer states he will continue to loft fly his birds before shipping but will not train them down the road. Is this a common practice to loft fly before shipping to OLR, or is this just due to being the SCMDR? Chigger

loft flying my young birds. The first time i let them out, they all scattered different ways. but all came back within a day. since then, I let them out, they just go sit on my roof. I chase them off the roof with a flag, small rubber ball, and they just fly to loft..I go there, they go back...

Well, today was a really good day- and then became a bad day. Up until now, my YB's have been spending their loft flying time doing very little actual flying- which I expected to a degree, but heck, yesterday they barely left the roof of my garage! But today, after just a few minutes up there...

Here's a video of how my new batch of YB's are doing in their training. Man is it ever a thrill to watch them fly! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G4zjLoW8bYQ&feature=player_profilepage

Some of your recent experiences loft flying your birds got the best of me. I couldn't take it any more. I had to open up the loft and let them fly. :D It went pretty well. I didn't force any birds out of the loft. I just let the ones who wanted to go, leave. It was right before feeding...

This is going to be my first year racing pigeons. I finally got the courage up yesterday to let the young ones out for the first time. They were already trained to the trap and over the past week I had been giving them half portions of food. So around 6 pm yesterday I opened the aviary doors for...

I have a bit of a situation with my ybs being strong on the wing. (Kind of a long read but only way I know to describe the situation) I did not feed my team their usual 2 cups of feed last Friday, I cut it in half to one cup of feed. Saturday, I removed their drinker in the morning and...

Okay...so now I'm at the point that I need some advice (not that I haven't needed it all along!) I have fourteen young white homers that have been in my loft for three weeks tomorrow. I have been trap-training them since day three, and they seem to have a pretty good grasp of it. Every evening...

Question: What is the average amount of loft flying until young birds start routing? Background: My birds are five months old. They have been loft flying for about 2 1/2 months. They trap perfectly. They fly every morning and twice a day on Saturday and Sunday. They have only been out of...

Do you all release your homers at any time of the day? So far I've only released a few hours before dark for training, but would like to fly them today at 1:30. Since no other birds are out during the midday hours, was wondering if this is not a good time!?!

I have a question for those of you who loft fly, so I might know what to expect. From your experiences, when your birds are out of the loft do they have a tendency to perch on their lofts or higher elevated buildings? The reason I ask this is that my loft is only a very few yards from a very...

Hi everyone, I am returning to breeding pigeons after 14 years, I need a lot of help and advice. I was 13 when I first started keeping pigeons, kept the birds in a old converted wardrobe, I kept them for2 years but did not have any luck breeding and then one by one they all died and the cat got...
