I just had a whole post written out, took too long, got logged out and lost my post! ugh! Let's try this again!
I posted here almost 7 years ago when I moved into an apt. and was appalled at how the LL kept his pigeons. I asked tons of questions and got lots of great advice and help. I...
Hello! For about two years now I've always wanted to get into birds. They've fascinated me and they're the most amazing creatures, in my opinion. When I was younger I had two lovebirds and a parakeet, but this would be the first time I've gotten birds for sometime.
I decided that I would like...
I have a 10 by 10 aviary in my old barn it's chicken wire on all sides besides one which is the side of the barn with wood.I have 5 nest boxes dirt floor with shavings. I clean it often. I have 6 pigeons, as I know so far 2 males and 4 females . I was told 3 pairs but they were young when I got...
So how hot is too hot?
It has been in the nineties here lately and our house's central air is broken. :( Will Stanley get over heated in these temperatures? How tolerant are pigeons to high/low (extreme) temperatures?
Thank you all!
Today I was supposed to fly my kit of rollers again, but the weather was a little concerning. I was wondering what weather conditions you won't fly your birds in and what you deem acceptable flying weather?
Well, so far my pigeons did real well on this big 2009 snow storm. I was really starting to worry as the snow piled up on the aviary roof, six inches and more.
In the morning, as the snow kept coming down, I climbed up on a ladder and kept the roof swept with a broom. I visited them...
It's starting to get cold in California - dipping in the 50's. I know, I know...wah, wah, wah. I'll be the first to admit that Californian don't take weather changes well :p
But for pigeons outdoors in a loft, how cold is too cold to consider a heater?
And how hot is too hot?
My loft has...
I have eight pairs on 2 to 4 day old babies, and we are getting some cold air coming through (0 degrees F). My loft is well ventilated, and I have a small heater on the floor and a red heat bulb pointed at the nest boxes from the ceiling. Should I be concerned about the cold?
I am new to pigeon and i have 2 pairs of Satinnet and Fantail. My questions are:
1) do i need to give the birds anything for worms? I believe they will have worms since they eat something that they shouldn't eat.
2) How cold and how hot can a pigeon take? (weather temperature)...
Do you think its a good idea to add insolation to my new bird shed/loft or no? Winters get -20 here sometimes but I still have not lost a pigeon or any other bird to the cold because the wind is usually well bloocked out
BUt i wonder maybe they would be more comfortable with insolation?
