Hi there

I am so said and have been crying all morning

I have had pigeons on my apt. balcony for over 2 months
Last month the Mommy gave birth 2 TWO eggs
One did not hatch, the other.....yes

Less than one month ago baby pigeon is born
She stayed in my palm tree plant the whole time, except for this week
She finally ventured out on the patio, walking around

This a.m. I woke to a pigeon at my bedroom window (they never come there)
and went out to say HELLO to them as I always do

Well.......beside the plant, was baby pigeon on her side
thought she was sleeping, but she was dead
I racked my brain to wonder what happened
She could not have flown as she was walking the day before very slowly

So my question:

I went and took a bag and scooped her and the older egg that did not hatch
I just buried them both this morning and cleaned out the plant of poop and stuff

Well it is 3 hours later and the mommy pigeon is in the plant
.....diggging around and COO-ing NON-stop:(

I know she is sad and wondering where her wee one is

But this a.m...the parents pretty much took me to her
to say "she is dead.......LOOK"

was I right to take the poor little dead baby and bury it?

SIGH:(

I am so sorry that the baby died. I think you are right, the parents knew that it was dead and it needed burying.

Pigeons mourn, but they are also practical and they live to reproduce, so they will soon start another brood.

I'm sorry about the baby pigeon. That's too bad. The parents are mourning the loss of their baby.

I'm so sorry for the loss of the baby. You did the right thing by burying it.

The digging and cooing mom is doing means she is ready to start a new nest. They mourn, but not for long.

I'm so sorry that you cried, I feel the same about my birds.

They need to be treated and that can be accomplished by giving them a good source of water with added ingredients.

I think getting to the bottom of the health issue is an excellent idea.
