One of my younger pigeons seems to have developed an eye infection or something. I am not near to any vets and I have never had to deal with this issue before. Then again I have no idea if it is merely an eye infection.

I've got a packet of Ornithose and a packet of Ronidazol (Trichonidazol). I don't think either of these works for eye infection. Let me know if I am wrong.

I've heard that you can use Betnesol N eye drops on pigeons. I've also heard that you can use Methaclor. But I am unsure where I can find either of these things.

I personally have used Zymar (Gatifloxacin) on myself. Though I assume that I can not use Zymar drops on birds. Let me know if I can, if so then I might already have the solution.

Here are some pictures of my bird. At first I was not sure what it was. Maybe another bird hit her and she got a bruise. But it looks like it could be an eye infection, I am unsure.

My brother suggested it was sinus canker or something involving the sinus. But I do not see anything in the nasal passages.

I checked today and saw that the bird's eye area was less swollen. It looks better today. I am going to see where I can get some bird drops or something.

Months later, minor update.

I called a vet in one of the nearby towns, as most apparently don't deal with birds. Repeatedly requested an appointment to the secretary. They said they would get back to me with a date. I must have called them every week since November, it is now March. They have not called me at all to set up in an appointment.

When it comes to the bird her eye and right side of her face got worse. The eye isn't too bad, it just waters. But she developed a ball on her right side between her nose and eye. No feathers grew on that part of her face and she is essentially bald. Since she was a baby when the infection occurred no feather grew there for some reason (I am not expert of infections).

So I do not even know what infection it is, Ornithosis or whatever. A vet might have told me, a vet might have given me an antibiotic. But I can't get an appointment with the only vet I know, and acquiring antibiotics even if just for a pet is impossible in Canada without a prescription apparently.

What I did was to ask a friend of mine what I could use (she is no vet) she suggested some eye drops called "Tobroptic (Dexametasona 0.1% Tobramicina 0.3%), someone let me know if they know what this is and if it is useful. I've been administering it to the pigeon's eye and right side of face. Her eyes seem to water less and the ball on her face has slightly reduced in size and appears to be scabbing. Someone let me know what this means, if it is good or bad. Her health seems alright other than these problems, but the ball is not really gone after 2 weeks, though slightly reduced and scabbed. She also has not gained any feathers on the right side of her face as of yet.

I can post a picture of her face if I need to.

You never posted a photo of the droppings. Droppings indicate if they are healthy or not. How is she overall: eating well, grooming herself?
She eats and grooms her feathers.

I have a hard time finding the droppings on the newspaper. But they do not appear to be watery or yellow at all. Had trouble with my phone so I could not take any pictures. I will see if I can get pictures of her droppings or face.

King regards. Have a great day.
