I have rescued a baby pigeon, its about 11 days old now, i have noticed one leg is sticking behind, think its splayed but unsure, any advice on how to fix...phoned wildlife centre and they said to take him in and they would look after but an 11 day old pigeon with bad leg reckon they wouldnt be able to do much...dont want to give him to them.

Can you post a photo? How long has he been like this? What are you feeding him?

Below is a photo how to fix. But don't force the leg too much into the correct position. Don't take him to a rescue centre, they might euthanize him.

Thankyou for your reply, as he is only 11-12 days old im feeding him nutribird mixed with water, and he will be going onto seeds and fruits in next few days. He has been like this maybe 3 days. Took to a bird specialist today and she showed us how to hold his leg in the right position when we are feeding etc..unsure of best way to make splint without hurting him.

Can he move the leg at all? If so, then it's not broken. Position the leg in the right way and try the above. I'm surprised the vet didn't make a splint to keep it in the right place. If you google "baby chicken with splayed leg" there are lots of info online how to do it. There might be videos on youtube to watch as well. But google for chickens, as there are more info available online than for pigeons.

Try again. Do it in such a way that both legs are under him and the toes flat. If not corrected at such an early age, the sockets will grow in the direction of the leg. Then he will need surgery.
