They really should be in case they accidently got loose and lost.......the chances of getting them back would go up if someone found them. Otherwise, it would be bye bye birdie.
Bands
do chicks have to be banded?? if they are being kept as pets? i never thought of banding this new chick.

where would i get 1 pigeon band ???????????

It's too old to band now. Might get some for the future. You can put a snap band on it anytime, but the permanent ones have to be put on around 6 days old. By the time you got one in the mail, it would be WAY to big......
