Tracy and Lucy each laid an egg and were sitting proudly on them. But when i I checked on them tonight i noticed one egg was broken and all over. I felt sad for them.i replaced the broken one with a fake egg and put some straw next to the real and fake eggs. Is the mom going to grieve the loss? I hope she is not going to make two more eggs because of this. Very sad.

Though the thread is old and unanswered but for sharing the information , if they both were incubating a pair of eggs, they won't lay until the time of 18-19 days is over and they abandon them. If one gets broken , they will incubate another till the incubation time is passed. How did it go with them?
And yes I know it feels sad for them.

They each laid a total of two and are just starting to,lose interest in them.

After how many days of laying? Are they both new parents?

As far as I know neither bird has had eggs before. It has been over a week that they have been sitting on the four eggs together but now are losing interest.

Then, that is lack of experience. They will learn with time and incubate for longer. Mine did the same so nothing unusual.
