Well. I believe that you might have made some eye sign "experts" a little upset with that statement George. Although you did say eye color and not eye sign.
I do not abide by eye sign theories, but I must say that if you hand me a feral and a racing homer, I can tell the difference easily, by sight and feel.
There are exceptions to everything of course. I do have a dark check hen that sure looks and feels like a feral. One of my better birds I must say.
Since so many homers get lost and intermingle (I would assume). It must be hard in some instances. But I have not encountered any yet. In the interest of full disclosure, I have not held many ferals for many years. One or two since about 1968 or so. A lot back then though.
I believe that a true pedigreed racing pigeon and a feral, have the differences such as you would find in comparing a thoroughbred racing horse and your average quarter horse. Many would not know the difference, but horse people would.
(One could say that if you race ferals, they are racing pigeons. So keep that in the back of your mind).
