dove feather loss

Alright...this is driving me nuts and I have posted here 3 previous times and here I go again....many of my doves have feather loss on the exterior of their wings, shoulders, top of their heads...in places they cannot reach. I have checked for mites, found nothing but treated anyway....I had suspected that in mating the male was hanging onto the females back and pecking at the back top of her head but it seems to happen moe often to the grey ring-necks. And there are some birds with no symptoms and the pijis have no symptoms. Can mating tear out feathers like that?

Strictly a guess, but I would guess that the other doves are "plucking" these birds.

And what does one do when this occurs? (If I am able to identify the mother plucker... )

Hate to tell ya, but ya gotta rearrange the dove groups to get peace back in the flock(s). I have seen this plucking many, many times with the doves, and the only solution I have come up with is to pull the pluckees from the pluckors and let the pluckees get their feathers back. Once the feathers have been regrown, you can move both the pluckees and the pluckors into a totally new enclosure, and all will be well .. since it is all new to both groups, nobody has territorial rights.

Ducklings do this too .. they can pluck another duckling completely bald in the space of a few minutes. There is no cure for it that I know of aside from separating the victim(s) from the aggressor(s).

Luckily, I have a BUNCH of cages and loft options and will start to try to identify the chief pluckers...the pluckees are pretty obvious.

Thank you.
