one of our local dovecotes(lean to shaped one)has been left for many years in state of disrepair, roof missing(pantiled)and nest boxes exposed etc, good news is,it is to be fully repaired,as it is listed building!this is good news, not just for local people but for pigeons and also tourists who walk/ride etc on fife coastal trail, looking forward to seeing end result!
Those dovecotes used to be famous in those places. Hopefully some can be preserve either for historic remembrance or basically to control pigeon population.
it has some residents,,you can see them when going past dovecote,it is a bit delapitated just now but hopefully will look good after renovation,,i think it will be for pigeons when completed,it is in a field by road out of town,i think our local council own it.
YIPPPPPEEEEE!!!! A "reason" I simply MUST return to Scotland!!!
It's always wonderful to hear of a community choosing to restore something of historical significance. It's unusual that such restoration will also give such benefit to an "animal". Is it possible for you to post pics? Maybe you could start a "journal" thread for those of us who won't actually get to see it ???? PLEEEEEEEEEEEEZZZZZZZZ......
sure ill keep everyone updated on progress,i hope this project gets ball rolling, cos there are several more(2 in town alone)which could do with a makeover,if my finances were a bit better(god knows i work hard enough lol)i would consider buying the one behind the old aluminium works,it is hidden behind buildings, roof off,but visble if walking in area, often have good look when visiting our local pigeon guy with racer loft which is situated not too far away
