I just got this feeder, wood trough type from Jedds, VERY impressed. The top of it is a fiber type board, almost like a sturdy 1/2" woody cardboard texture. I put a drop of water on it, and it soaked right in.

My question is: what can I put on the top of this, paint or some sort of clear sealer, that is non toxic and will water proof the top? The main feeder section is bare wood, but I'm not too concerned with it, just the top if it gets pooped on, it will soak into the fiber board.

Any ideas?

This is the one I got:

i would recomend an out door paint or light varnish that is pet friendly. your best bet is to bring the feeder to your local hardware store or paint supplier and they will recomend the proper paint. best of luck..

I think most paints would be exceptable as long as you give them plenty of time to air out an dry before putting them into the loft ;)
