Hi, I have a pigeon hanging out by my garden with an obviously traumatically broken wing. He’s pretty active, but can’t fly. Before reading anything (sorry) I gave him bird food and water which he’s consuming readily.
Now what do I do?
Location is Ann Arbor, Michigan, US

Can you catch him at dusk and and get hm to a shelter or vet? Thank you for helping him.

There are some rescues listed online but i do not know if they help pigeons. It is very important to find out before taking an injured pigeon to a rescue. Our first pigeon was a critically injured feral, Phoebe. She had a broken wing and was nearly decapitated. Our local “ rescue” just euthanizes pigeons and other wild birds so we got her to a vet who fixed her up and we adopted her. She was our dearest love for eight years. So please check out any rescues carefully.

Palomacys website recommends Wild Wings in Hazel Park as pigeon friendly:

I wouldn't wait till dusk, as something will likely grab him before then, and there is no reasdon to wait, as he cannot fly. He may run away, but can still be caught. Even easier with 2 people.

I also would not bring him to a shelter, as they don't usually doctor broken wings and such. They may likely euthanize a bird with broken wing. To set a wing it would need to be an avian vet, or at least one who is used to caring for birds.

You should catch him and put him in a box or cage with seed and water, and maybe you can find a rescue. Some vets may even know some, or you can try cwebsters list. Please bring him inside.
