My granddaughter noticed that one of our pet pigeon's feet has a red and sore looking area on it, and that she is standing on one foot today. Is it safe for me to apply a triple antibiotic cream to the area that looks sore?

Is the sre looking area on the top, or bottom of the foot? It would help if you could pls post aphoto. If it is the bottom of the foot, is there dried poop on it? Our bird had that. One serious thing to look out for is bumblefoot.

Am not expert with pigeon meds...someone else should answer soon. Would not use cream with the pain reliever which can be toxic.

Yes, you can clean it and cover it with an antibiotic cream. As cwebster has mentioned, don't use the one with the pain reliever in it.

Thanks so much for the feedback! We'll try the antibiotic cream.
We are novices. We took in an orphaned baby pigeon last Fall. Six months later, she is now our indoor pet. Learning as we go.
We were ignorant when we found her and brought her home, and we intended to either find a sanctuary who would take her, or take care of her ourselves until she could be on her own and then release her where we found her. We didn't know at the onset that she would imprint with us right away, and that she could never be released to fend for herself.
She is a sweetheart. She is free to roam and fly around our house, and we put her in her cage at night. She's another member of our family now.

Yes. Years ago I came home with 6, figuring the same thing about releasing them. As it turned out, they were the start of our rescue loft. LOL. Does she have a name?

Letting her fly free all day, you need to be very careful. People come on here all the time, saying that the bird got outside and took off. One got stepped on, and another had a door closed on him.

Welcome to Pigeon Talk.:)
Should have mentioned that some have actually eaten things that were dangerous for them. They will pick up anything.
