This evening I went to feed my pigeons king pigeons and noticed one is not using its leg, its tucked up into the body. It seem painful for the bird to walk on that foot. It also can not use the foot to grip the perches. The foot is clean and not swollen or cut.

But the ends of each toe are swollen slightly and the nails are dark coloured (he has white claws normally).

About one week ago its mate also had a foot problem, with a bloody claw and stiff toe. Her toe is OK now, but she keeps her toe stiff - although its not broken.

Whats going on? They are in the normal cage - I checked it and there are not sharp things or ways to get toes stuck that I can find. They lived in this cage over a year and this is the first time it happened.

Do you think something is biting their toes in the night? Or is there a disease that affects the feet?

What can I do to help the foot heal? I don't want a lame king pigeon!

Obviously something is hurting them.

What kind of protection do they have from the outside world?

Please provide a picture of their set up (cage) and swollen feet/toes.
