Found a pigeon;

Seems a bit like one of the racing pigeon pics;

Been here a couple days,

Just got close, seems some feathers are missing near port ?tummy?
area; it can fly a short distance;

Have been giving wild bird food, and it is sharing with the squirrels.

has a pink band on starboard leg, cannot get close enough to read.

Am in Arden on the Severn, north of Annapolis, MD.

Ideas?

Thanks,

Reid

If you could catch the bird and get it in a secure area that would be ideal. Not much can be done if he is at large but thank you for feeding him. Probably a lost racer. If you can see where he goes to roost at night you may be able to grab him in the dark with a flashlight. Alternatively you can set up a "box type trap".....just like the kind you see in cartoons with a stick holding up one end and a string tied to the stick. Get him used to eating in one area and leave the trap securely set up there.......than pull the stick when he is well under it. Once you get him you can better check him over for injuries and trace the band number.

Hi Reid
Welcome to PT
Thanx for showing interest in helping the bird.
He's vulnerable out there. And he maybe hurt as you put that he can fly short distances only. His injuries may need immediate attention. To help him you have to catch him. Catching him may be easy as he's a domestic bird. And then you can read his band number and his owner maybe be located.
