I found a pigeon in a grocery store parking lot on July 4. He could not fly. I have had him in a crate and have been feeding him birdseed and water. He seems to be getting a tiny bit better each day.

I've taken him out of the crate several times to see if he's ready to fly. Today, I took him outside and he flew 20 feet or so but ran into a dock edge and fell in the water. I rescued him, and he's back in his cage now. Should I keep waiting it out? I'm afraid that if I take him outside to fly again, he'll fly too far for me to find him before he's ready. He can't seem to get lift in his short flights. He flies low along the land and only for short distances. Any thoughts?? Thanks so much!

We are in Mooresville (Iredell County), NC
