I want to make up a proper pigeon hospital/first aid kit. The first aid equipment I already have - bandages, handfeeding formula, syringes, etc, etc. What I want to know is what medications I MUST have. I keep reading the threads here and am scaring myself . Please keep in mind that NO vet in BC will give out medications with out a vet visit...period.It is illegal for them to do so- however there are some exceptions when it comes to large animals ( cows and such). I need to know what meds I should have on hand - I asked about Fishzole at a pet store and they looked at me like I was speaking a foreign language - and I need to know the medications dosage, and where I can get them in Canada. I am assuming I need a source of metronidazole for treating canker ( what else does it treat?) and antibiotic for deep tissue injury such as cat bite, and something that can treat coccidia/giardia?. I have metacam ( for dogs) just need a dose for pain in pigeons. What else?...help....:)

Ede-bird, this has been covered a few times before. Here are some links on what a number of our members feel are important meds to have on hand and where to source them. I am also posting a link for you on some basic meds info, I hope this helps you a bit.

If you help and rescue ferals, I'll also include the soap down, I alway have that in my house in case I find a bird with oil etc, you got the formula and syringes, peas to defrost if is adult and is too skinny, and I usually have pedialyte for kids, in case I find a bird that is dehydrated, I just need to find nice scissors for the strings, that is something that you can keep it at home. I hope it helps.

Thank you! I knew I had seen something here but couldn't find it again - I'm not very computer literate. I have the info I need now and I thank you for your patience - I should have rounded up my 9 year old Grandson to search the forum for the info :) I see that some of these places will ship to Canada - has anyone had problems with the stuff being stopped at the border???
