My birds have grit all the time. Its always in my loft and kit box. I put mine in a metal bird bowl that attaches to the side of a bird cage that I got from Petsmart. I attached it to the wall, that way they cant kick it around or spill it .
Yes, I leave the grit inside their "dining" room. I replace it constantly as it is emptied.
I either use the pick pots the grit comes in, or use a plastic feeder that has a top over it. with holes in the side so the birds can stick their heads in to eat it. Sometimes they make a big mess with the open top grit/pick pots. The pick pots are better used for small number of birds.
