Found an injured pigeon in East Village, NYC. Think the bird was injured by car, looks like a broken wing. I could not help by reacting to someone who was going to put their boot to this bird.
I just do not quite know what to do with it, have 2 cats at home. Will also have to leave the city this Monday.
It is presently in a community garden. Feel bad about just leaving it out there in the cold.
Anyone please help!!

Please go back and get the bird. I know it's late but the bird is very vulnerable to night time predators. Bring it home and put it in a cat kennel and put the kennel in a closet for the night or your bathroom...someplace the cats can't get to.

Yes, you must go back and get the pigeon. It may be a safer location than where you found her/him initially...but it isn't very safe, still.

Just bring a cardboard box with a towel on the bottom. When you get her/him home, just place in a warm, heated room where your other pets cannot get in. Check for any open wounds. Then contact one or multiple of the above resources.

I went back tonight but problem now is that the poor thing has crawled away from the fence of the community garden where I left it (to be safer than the street) and I could not reach the bird.
Have to find a way to get into the locked garden w/o waiting for the weekend.
If anyone knows anyone who has access to the 6th Street garden pls let me know.
