Hi everyone. I am in very need of help. You know how some of you guys told me in the other thread that I need to give the pigeons a nest bowl??? so the babies don't get splayed leg. My other pair of pigeons just layed her first egg and she didn't lay it in the bowl that i gave her. I don't know what to do. The other baby that hatched a couple weeks ago has it and will he grow out of it???? He can't stand on it. This pair is afraid of the bowl i don't know what to do???

Where did she lay the egg?
Put something underneath the babies, when they hatch, that they can grip and gives them traction...like an old towel and some twigs. Just make sure you leave the babies in the same spot.
The baby with splay leg will not grow out of it without your help.
You need to make a donut shape out of an old towel and tape the ends together so it perfectly fits the size of the baby. You also need to put a towel underneath him.
His splay leg need to be taped, with a tape that sticks to itself and is easily taken apart, to the other leg so that it is in a normal Pigeon leg position.
The taping may need to be adjusted daily as the baby grows. That's why the tape needs to stick to itself and easily come apart.

There are instructions in the resource section. I'll go find them for you.
She layed the egg very far away from the bowl that i put out for her. She layed it on a flat surface like the other one did before. I dont know why.
Just put the bowl under wherever she laid the egg and she'll lay on it. I had a hen do that yesterday, laid an egg on the floor in the corner with plenty of other good spots up high. I put a bowl in front of her and put the egg in it (until she lays the second one then she'll get dummy eggs)and she got back behind the bowl and wing-slapped it away, then half an hour later was laying in it.

You definitely need to follow Charis's advice and link and fix that other baby's legs up in the special holder. This is the only chance he has to heal or he will always be crippled like he is now, and each day means less of a chance to fix his legs. I've had a rescue before that was an adult with one splayed leg, twisted almost backwards and up, and he hopped around one one leg and a wing for balance. He did alright but it was really pretty awful for him. So please do make the holder for his legs and get them straightened out, and don't worry about the other hen as she will likely get in the bowl with her egg. :)

Thankyou soo much i will show you how fast the other baby grew. I gave many of you pictures of him in my other thread. But he is a lot bigger and he grows really fast. Well i will put the egg in the bowl and I will definetely give the other baby something to fix it's legs with that website. I will give you the picture later on today.

I don't know why. That is why we took the eggs in to incubate them. Anyways. When they hatch what do i do???????? DO i get the bird formula or what????? I really need to know. I expect them to hatch May 10th. THanks

Throw the eggs away. If you expect them to hatch on the 10th, that means they are only 2 or 3 days old. It's VERY hard to raise these guys from the egg. You would be doing the BABIES and YOURSELF a favor by just forgetting about them. ;)
Thankyou. I am going to put the eggs in the nest so that she doesn't lay any more eggs. Just until we get some wooden eggs. Maybe she will lay on them and they will hatch. Who Knows???? WEll thankyou soo much. We are getting our wooden eggs after may 10th because of some difficulties in my scedule.

Just a thought, if the hen is afraid to sit on the nest, mites may be bitting her at night and causing her to abandon the nest. Some mites are so small that you can't see them. The hide during the day and only come out at night. As a regular routine, birds, nest area and housing needs to be treated.
Wooden eggs can be purchased on line at all of the Pigeon supply places and then they are delivered right to your door. No need to disrupt your schedule.
