Thank you for rescuing this pigeon, and welcome to our forum.

Please tell us where you are located? We may have a member near you who will be able to help.

If possible can you take the bird to a Vet? If so please tell the Vet that it is your pet otherwise they will most likely put the bird to sleep if you tell them he is a feral bird.

First of all is the bird bleeding? Have you will able to find the entry wound of the BB? Where is the wound located on the bird?

If the bird is not bleeding, first try and remove any feathers that could have been pushed into the wound from the BB impact. Next please disinfect the wound by using hydrogen prioxide or benidine solution.

The bird could possibly be in shock, so it is important that the bird be kept warm and calm. If possible place the bird in a pet carrier or cage with a heating pad set on the lowest setting with a towell between the bird and the pad. Provide a small bowl of water for the bird.

Hopefully there will be other more experienced members along shortely that can give you more detailed advice.

yes, the links are working. Just keep an eye on this thread. I really don't know what to tell you do to, but someone will shortly. I will say thanks for caring for the bird AND kicking that persons butt..........:D
I certainly understand your anger, however confronting a person with any type of weapon is probably not the most logical thing to do.

Why not take some photos of this knucklehead in the act and file a complaint with the police?

Steven, many thanks for rescuing this pigeon. I doubt any one on the forum can really help with this since the bullet is still in him. He does need to be seen by a vet. Costs can vary. If you can locate a licensed rehabber in your area, they may have a vet who does "freebies" for them and can take him over. Try calling your state wildlife department and find out if they have a list of licensed rehabilitators who care for birds and just call some of them.

I'm glad this idiot knows someone will watch him. Maybe he will stop shooting birds now.

Could a moderator please move this to the sick and injured forum? Maybe others who look at only that forum can have more ideas.

I'll be happy to.

The bone under his wing is sticking out and the vet told me that he will never be able to fly again
Steven,

Thank you so much for caring for this bird and taking him to the vet. Did the vet do any treatment? Where are you located? If you don't want to keep the bird as a non flying pet, perhaps there is one of our members who would take him and get him healed up. Many of us have birds who have been injured and no longer fly. But they live pretty good and happy lives, usually with other handicapped birds.

PS Extra thanks for "explaining" to the sadist who is shooting the birds that killing or wounding harmless creatures is not OK.
Sometimes they can surprise you. I can't tell exactly what's damaged by the photos. Was it a BB or a pellet? Did the vet get it out? I had one once that had been shot through the leg and it had festered quite a bit. DD's story's here:

BB's and pellets usually drag feathers into the wounds. That's something to look into.

I think im going to keep it, it kinda grew on me

And the the vet did all the fixies he said they both went strait through
Steven - you kick ass. Thanks for rescuing the pigeon. And thanks for giving a piece of your mind to the loser who can't find anything better to get his kicks from than hurting "disposable" animals.

I hope the pigeon brings amusement to you in the years to come. :)
