After taking in two feral pigeon orphans, I am officially addicted to all things pigeon and am going to be building a loft to get into homers.
I've been so excited the last few days and have begun my quest to get a proper pigeon education before I get birds.
So, I thought to stop by Barnes and Noble this morning to get a good book that I can carry around with me. I have found a wealth of information on the net and especially here at this forum, but when I can't get to a computer I find myself thinking only about pigeons and that I must know more about them:eek:
After perusing the shelves for a bit I found nothing on pigeons. So I asked a staff member for assistance.
He was dumbfounded and said with one eyebrow raised "Wow. I didn't know anyone still did that!"
He ran a computer search of their inventory which turned up not one single book about homing pigeons or pigeons in general for that matter.
The only thing available to me was a single book simply called "The Homing Pigeon" that would be printed for me if I ordered it...
I turned it down in hopes that I can find something better I can order online.
In all my years of reading on many obscure topics I have never once left Barnes and Noble empty handed.
Honestly I'm boggled and had no idea that pigeon keeping was that uncommon...
Strangely enough there were over a dozen books on falconry.
Who woulda thought?

Pigeon keeping is one of those low-profile hobby or not mainstream hobby. I think most people has no clue. I mean I didn't know that you can race pigeons before even though I had pigeons as a kid.

It used to be that there is only one book from the library I go to about pigeons. It was written I think either in 1970's or 1980's. Now that one disappeared as well.

I probably learn more reading Internet articles and this forum and the lessons I learned from experience. Just ask and we will answer.

Here are some old school books written before our time:

I say, just carry a laptop around with the link to this site right where you can click it. That's the best pigeon info you can find in any book hehe. :p I hope you do find some good books, you should keyword search "books" on here as there are several threads about what are good books. :)
