Hi. I have a problem. I don't know if this is the right place to ask this question. I'll tell you what happened from the beginning.
A year ago I found on the street a collared dove. Its wings were hurt, one was bleeding the other one was broken. I went to the vet, but he only treated the bleeding wing. Only a week later when I noticed that it held its wing in an odd way, and went again to the vet, he told me the wing was broken. Anyway, the main idea is that the vet said there's nothing left to do and that the dove won't be able to fly again. So I've kept the dove for an year on the balcony. From time to time I took it outside and left it in the grass, because I thought that a wild bird needs to stay out in nature. Last time it happened was two days ago. Yesterday I noticed that the dove seemed somehow depressed and tired. And today it seemed totally ill. It doesn't eat, and doesn't drink. It can hardly walk and loses equilibrium quickly. It's shivering and its feathers are very fluffed. I'm afraid it would die. I don't know how to treat it. I don't know any vets that know how to treat birds (they generally know about cats or dogs).

PS: sorry for my bad english, I don't know the language very well

It would be best to bring the dove inside and keep it warm. Can you post a pictue of the dove and a picture of the poop?
Where are you located?

For the time being take it in, place it somewhere warm and quiet and on a hot water bottle wrapped in a towel. He needs to be kept warm but not hot.

When it is warm, mix 1/2 liter warm water, with 1/2 teaspoon of salt and 1/2 tablespoon , dip his beak in the water to tempt him to drink. If he wont' drink, trickle water from a dropper or a syringe on the side of his beak.

Can you check the inside of his mouth and tell us what it looks like?

Also, let us know where you are so that we can work out what resources you might have.

Ok, I took some pictures of him. His poop is mainly very liquid and white, I couldn't make a photo with that, yet. I checked the inside of his mouth, it doesn't seem anything wrong. I also noticed something strange... his iris was red now it looks as if it lost some of its color.

I'm from Bucharest, Romania. But I couldn't find any vets that know how to treat birds around here (and I did search a lot in the beginning when I was still hoping to find someone to heal the broken wing).

Oh he looks very ill. Do bring him in and follow Cyro's suggestions. Cyro is closer to you and maybe can make recommendations for medications.

I don't understand how he got so ill in such a short period of time (two days ago he was just fine - except the broken wing). It all started after his last walk outside. I wonder if he ate anything bad .. I really don't know.... I just really love this little bird and I want him to get better.

Well he doesn't lay eggs. I fed him with bread and seeds (especially pearl barley). I didn't gave him any calcium (I didn't event think about it, I thought that giving him food is enough....)

Can you get some calcium supplements and vitamins?

These are some links that Reti found for another member in Bucharest (amaria), she found someone that could help her among them:

So, it's a HE, not a SHE.............just wondered because hens sometimes have issues with calcium and laying eggs and go lame for a while.

It could have built up over time from something lacking in diet. He would be better with more variation, like wild bird food.

He probably could do with some pet bird vitamins in the water or mixed with food.

Ok, thank you all very much.
I'll try to get him some vitamins as you said.
Today he seems a little better. I mean he started walking and doesn't seem to lose equilibrium that much. But I still didn't see him eat anything...

Thank you for the sites, I'll look at them now. I did some research myself, but I didn't know about most of these sites.

PS: I'm not totally sure it's a he. But he never laid any eggs so I assumed it must be a he. Actually in my first post I talked about him with "it" because I wasn't totally sure about his gender.
