Hey community,
So we found this juvenile pigeon..she isn't self feeding yet, so we gave her seeds mixed with water (bought at a Pet store) via a syringe. So although pigeon is eating, we don't know how to encourage self feeding. She is getting angry (was more calm initially) and impatient to leave as she keeps trying to escape. But we don't want to release her until she is ready to self feed.
Advice?

You can handfeed defrosted green peas about 30 to 40 peas 3 times a day. Just put one at a time deep inside the beak over the tongue and let him swallow. Proceed with the next one. They quickly learn to eat peas by themselves. Always leave a small bowl with him. When he starts eating peas then you can start adding some small seeds. Also leave a bowl of water with him.

Don't release him until he is able to eat all types of seeds. He will need to spend time outside in a aviary to get used to the area before releasing. After releasing you still need to supply him with food. He was raised by humans and won't know where to find food out there.
