One of my pigeons has a slight laceration behind her leg that she won't leave alone. I don't believe she has picked out any feathers around there, but it's obviously bothering her. It looks like a clean surface cut on the skin and doesn't show any signs of infection yet. What can I apply to this, keeping in mind that she may ingest any ointment or salve I might use? I read a post here for serious wounds suggesting antiseptic and antibacterial ointment, but I'm not sure if a surface cut should be treated with this.

Clean the wound with a saline solution. Made by boiling a quart of water and adding 1 Tablespoon of salt. Let cool to lukewarm, and clean the wound. Then apply an antibiotic cream to cover it. Don't use the creams that contain the pain relief med in them. Those can be toxic.
