I live near Carlisle Pa. We had a pigeon drop in on us right before mothers day weekend. He has been hanging around here since. He has a blue band on his left leg and a white one on the right with numbers. I cant get close enough to read them. Any ideas on how to catch him? I am afraid to use a net for fear of harming him.

Please see if you can contain him in a cage or dig crate. If you use a net carefully you shouldnt harm him. Is he eating? Could you please post a photo? He sounds like a lost racer who is dependent on people for food. He is likely lost and very vulnerable to any predators as a lone pigeon is not safe. It may be easiest to catch him at dawn or dusk, when they are least active. Besides a net, you can prop open a large box and put food underneath, and pull tye string when he is underneath. Or use a large towel to throw over him. Thank you for helping him. You may be his only chance to survive and be reunited with his owner.
