is it good to still train your racing pigeon while they molt? why or why not?
No. It takes a lot of energy to grow those feathers. IMO, you shouldn't train OR let birds raise babies while they're in a heavy molt. On those days when you walk in the loft and there's enough feathers to start a pillow factory, the birds should rest. I let mine loft fly IF they want to. I don't force them.

Yeah...and if you fool around with a system you don't fully understand like I did this year, you end up with birds going into a molt the 1st race of the season. I can't see how they can do well with this pillow factory I got going on right now with my one experimental team. It is additional stress, and I think LoveBirds makes very good points.

I am going to ask a few question along with this thread. Not directly flying I do not pay enough attention to these things.

How long on average will the molt last?

At what point exactly on the flight molt is it ok to send a bird to a race?

Someone in the know educated us here.
